Ashburn Real Estate Information

The unincorporated area of Ashburn hosts 73,000 Virginians within Loudoun County just thirty miles west of Washington, DC. Originally named Farmwell, it is unknown why the town’s name changed to Ashburn. According to local legend, the name was changed following a lightning strike that hit an ash tree. In Ashburn’s prime, it served as a presidential retreat for many United States presidents who stayed in the upscale hotels and dined in the fancy restaurants that were once all over Ashburn. Today, only a few of these gorgeous buildings remain.

Lying in the Dulles Technology Corridor, a number of technology companies are based in Ashburn. Some notable companies that have major offices or headquarters in Ashburn include Verizon Business, Old Dominion Brewing Company, and the Janelia Farm Research Campus. Additionally, Redskins Park also calls Ashburn home. The park is the NFL team Washington Redskins’ headquarters and home base. For this reason, it is not uncommon to see celebrity players in the area. Despite the high degree of commercialization, the only major shopping area is Ashburn Village. Most residents prefer to drive to nearby towns for their retail needs. However, they don’t need to go far to find good recreational facilities. Ashburn Park, Windmill Park, and Beaverdam Run Pond are all fun places to be, especially in the warmer summer months.

Across the Claiborne Parkway from Ashburn is Belmont where a number of the east coast’s best greens are. Belmont Country Club is regarded as one of the most prestigious set of links and is often overbooked on the weekends by avid golfers, including many from Ashburn. Besides a few private schools in the area, the Loudoun County Public School District is the primary education provider for local students. The district has over a dozen elementary campuses, five middle schools, and three high schools nearby. George Washington University and Strayer University also maintain satellite campuses in Ashburn, making higher education much more affordable for many residents.
