Waterford Real Estate Information

Established in 1733 by a Quaker from Bucks County, Pennsylvania, Waterford sits on 400 acres of prime real estate on the south fork of Catoctin Creek. Originally created as a town to support a grist mill and saw mill, the settlement that has become Waterford has watched its population grow steadily since the mid-18th century. Interestingly, the town’s name is taken from the Irish town of Waterford where a number of residents originally came from. As an unincorporated village in Loudoun County, Waterford is located in the Loudoun Valley just seven miles northwest of Leesburg. Forty-seven miles southeast of Waterford is the nation’s capital, Washington, DC. Seeing as both of these large cities are within an hour’s drive, most residents enjoy Waterford’s quiet streets and charming neighborhoods while being exposed to the resources of much larger cities nearby.

The Waterford Historic District is one of the town’s most attractive highlights and is protected as a National Historic Landmark. The locally owned Waterford Market is a hotspot for both visitors and residents because of its high-quality wool products created from the products of local sheep. The Waterford Market is also as close as residents will get to a restaurant. On most days, a full complement of lunch and dinner items ranging from sandwiches to hot entrees, are offered. A number of small wineries are also popular in Waterford. Corcoran Vineyards, Village Winery, and Loudoun Valley Vineyards are amongst the better known ones. Because of the town’s size, most residents spend weekends abroad to shop, engage in entertainment, and run errands.

The entire Waterford community looks forward to the annual homes tour and crafts exhibition that is held each year on the first weekend of October. Known as the Waterford Fair to many, the weekend is filled with a number of activities and family-friendly games. The Waterford Citizens' Association Barbecue at the Fair is the most anticipated event during the festivities. While there are no large parks and facilities in Waterford itself, Paeonian Springs is just a few miles south and boasts two of the largest – Beacon Hill Golf Course and Morven Park.
